China, the Pacific Rim...and Florida

Letter Most people, who are familiar with East Gates Ministries International, recognize they are a vital component of the Body of Christ reaching out and strengthening our brothers and sisters in China and along the Pacific Rim. While this is certainly the heartbeat of their ministry, God is also using East Gates in towns and cities closer to home. Even in a small town on the gulf coast of Florida, they are making a positive impact on ministry in China. My relationship with East Gates is a delightful illustration.

Chinese Children

Beginning in 1999, my free time was spent researching, supporting, and being an advocate for the orphans in China. Although their physical and emotional needs were great, it was the spiritual condition of their hearts that God impressed upon me the most. I knew that in order to effectively serve these precious little ones, it was vital to understand the dynamics of the church in China. My quest involved countless conversations, correspondence, and research with numerous ministries. Sadly, many represented China from either a persecuted perspective or a colonial approach to missions. I experienced great frustration; both approaches seemed lacking in either grace or respect for the Chinese people and culture.

Then, in March 2004, I made a phone call and had my initial contact with East Gates. They warmly welcomed my questions about ministry in China and shared their views, experiences, and resources. With over a decade and a half of ministry and historical roots in China, I was confident East Gates provided a balanced and educated view of China’s church. It was as though a veil was lifted from my eyes as I gained a deeper understanding on the diversity of Chinese believers. Graciously, the Holy Spirit confirmed these truths in my heart. Months later, when I traveled to five orphanages, I was equipped with greater insight regarding the complexities and nuances of the Chinese people and their faith.

Today, God is still refining my ministry to China’s orphans. But, as I share my passion for reaching these forgotten children, I am eternally grateful for East Gates Ministries International who continues to be a source of credible information and encouragement. They are a God directed ministry fulfilling the Great Commission from strategic places within China, the Pacific Rim, and even a small town in Florida. From that gulf coast town, East Gates has made an impact on China’s orphans … all for God’s Glory.
